Spirited Events created a bespoke event for the Caversham Charity Ball this year quoted in the Reading Chronicle as "The Best One Yet".
The brief:
A marquee at the front of the stunning and historical Mapledurham House to seat 550 guests with a reception area, catering marquee, cocktail bar and all incidentals
Decor in the style of Moulin Rouge/Las Vegas.
Our design concept:
To build an environment in a temporary structure to house all elements of the event.
The decor should encapsulate the requested elements but should also be further developed to produce exciting, unexpected results. Rotating showgirls, feather chandeliers and mirror balls, backlit baroque and showgirl screens, showgirl headdress table centres on brightly coloured slip cloths in 3 colour ways. Further showgirls around the marquee and reception area.
Décor including a plethora of showgirls (and some boys), a profusion of colour and a hint of kitsch! A fusion of Vegas meets Moulin Rouge enveloping guests in an evening of abundant decadence, cheeky merriment and glamour galore!
The result:
The guests were welcomed by columned archways to receive a reception drink.
The decision was made to create a monochrome reception area in order to produce a breathtaking impact upon entering the colourful main dining area. The reception marquee was lined with a ruched white roof and black walls. Black and white showgirls and showboys were placed at the most focal points with giant black glittered baroque style candelabra in the centre. The only colour in this area was the bright red velvet curtains shielding the entrance to the main dining area and our lime green and turquoise showgirl cocktail waitresses welcoming the guests.
When the time came for seating the cocktail waitresses parted the curtains for the big reveal.
Upon entering the marquee the guests were greeted by bright red, cerise pink and black ceiling draping with rotating showgirls, feathered chandeliers and mirror balls hanging from the central ridges of the marquee to generate a feeling of movement.
Around the perimeter of the marquee a combination of 8' tall baroque and showgirl backlit silhouetted screens were positioned in reds, pinks and oranges. Tables were laden in black linen each with a brightly coloured slip cloth. Three differently styled and coloured showgirl heads on plinths surrounded by three tea-lights in different heights formed a sea of colour at this lower level and corners were filled with an amalgamation of red, orange, cerise and black battery paper lanterns again of various sizes and at varying heights.
Lighting was used to create a wash of colour throughout the marquee adding to the moody atmosphere resulting in a colourful, slightly kitsch but stunning event.
